Family Movie Night - Trolls World Tour

Before you watch the movie review these scriptures and points.

Galatians 3:28 – There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

Galatia was a melting pot of people.  It was where Asian and Greek influences met.  Before being conquered by Rome, the area was comprised of three different countries that were forcefully united under Roman Rule.  Most religions and communities separated based on their differences and their backgrounds.

The Church started by Paul in Galatia started to let these barriers come into the Church and divide God’s people.  Paul was not ignoring the diversity.  He realized the diversity was what made the people unique and special, however, what he does remind them is that what unites them is much stronger than anything that could divided them.  He is reminding them that despite being different, they are on in Jesus Christ.  In Christ, their divisions are celebrated to show the power, majesty and love of Christ.

What in the movie threatens to divide the trolls and what ultimately unites them together?

Genesis 3:4-6 “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it.

Adam and Eve were literally in paradise.  They had everything that anyone could have wanted or desired.  They had unity with creation, a personal walk with God and harmony with the animals, yet they gave all that up to try and be like God.  They gave up paradise to try and gain control.

Of course, as we know this brings sin into the world, creates division between people and God (which Jesus repair) and causes death.  We quickly move from Adam and Eve living in harmony with God in paradise to son, Cain, killing their son, Able.  Sin spreads fast.

In the movies see if you can see the Trolls giving up harmony and unity to gain control or power?

I Corinthians 12:25-27 - so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. 26 If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it. 27 Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.

In 1 Corinthians, Paul reminds us that the Church, Christ’s body shouldn’t be divided because of what we look like, where we come from, how much money we have, what school we go to or anything else that divides people in our world.  Paul reminds us that God made each of us and he made each of us unique and special.  He loves all people the same and that is unconditional.  So, each person is an invaluable and important part of the body of Christ.

Just like you can’t put a puzzle together unless you have all the puzzle pieces, every person is special, unique and needed in the Body of Christ.  No one is more or less important, we are all needed and valued.

See if you can see divisions in Troll world.  What are those divisions based upon?  See if the trolls are treating all people with love and respect or if they are just valuing the ones like themselves?

WATCH THE MOVIE

Galatians 3:28 – There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

At the beginning of the movie, how was Troll world like Paul’s Church in Galatia?  What united them?  How does Christ unite all people despite all of our differences? (Number one is we are all sinners in need of his love and grace).

Genesis 3:4-6 “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”  When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it.

How did the Trolls act like Adam and Eve and give up harmony for power and control?  What was the consequences of the Trolls power grab?  What are the consequences of sin?  What ended up uniting the trolls us again?

Christ unites us through is blood.  I love at the end of the movie when the color washes over the crowd of trolls and bringing them back to color.  I think that is a great imagery of the blood of Christ washing over us and bringing us back to life.

I Corinthians 12:25-27 - so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. 26 If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.
27 Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.

At the beginning, did the Trolls respect each other’s difference or just tolerate them?  Did they have much to do with Trolls that weren’t like them?  What was the consequences of that? What finally united them back together despite their differences?

All believers are part of the one body of Christ and each of us has unique and special gifts to help the world know about Christ.  It doesn’t matter if you preach to 20,000 people or bake a cookie for your neighbors, we are equally important, equally loved and equally valued.
